What Is HEIC, and Why Convert It?

HEIC is the photo format iPhones and iPads use by default. It keeps the quality of a JPG at roughly half the file size, which saves space on your phone. The catch is that many websites, apps, editors and older computers still don't open it. Converting HEIC to JPG gives you a photo that works everywhere: email, social media, forms, print shops and Windows.

1. Add your HEIC photos

Drop them onto the upload area or choose them from your device. You can convert up to 20 photos at a time.

2. Convert to JPG

Click Convert to JPG. Each photo is decoded on your device and saved as a JPG, with a preview next to the original.

3. Download

Download each JPG, or all of them at once. You can also copy a photo as base64 to paste into code or a web page.

How the Converter Works

The photo is decoded in your browser, drawn onto a white background and saved as a JPG. Browsers that can open HEIC themselves, such as Safari, do it directly. Others use a small built-in decoder that runs on your device.

Convert HEIC to JPG Without Uploading

Everything happens in your browser. Your photos are decoded and converted on your own device, so they are never uploaded, logged or stored on a server. That matters for family pictures, ID photos, documents and anything else you wouldn't want to send to a stranger's website. Close the tab and nothing is left behind.

Supported HEIC Variants

iPhone and iPad photos

HEIC photos from the Camera app, including Portrait mode and Live Photos (you get the still image), plus screenshots saved as HEIC.

HEIC and HEIF files

Files ending in .heic, .heif or .hif, from iPhones, iPads, Samsung and other Android phones, and some cameras.

Large and high-quality files

Photos up to 50 MB each, including 48-megapixel shots. Phones and tablets that can't handle very large images scale them down and tell you.

Works on Mobile and Desktop

The tool works in any modern browser on phones, tablets and computers, with nothing to install. On an iPhone you can pick photos straight from your library, and on a computer you can drag a whole folder of HEIC files onto the upload area. Safari opens HEIC itself, and other browsers use the built-in decoder.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I convert HEIC to JPG?
Add your HEIC photos, click Convert to JPG, then download the results. A 12-megapixel photo usually takes a second or two.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, on your own device. Your photos are never uploaded, logged or stored, so it is safe to use with personal pictures.
Will the JPG look the same as the HEIC?
Yes, for practical purposes. At the default 90% quality the difference is very hard to see. JPG files are usually a little larger than HEIC, because HEIC compresses more efficiently. Lower the quality slider if you need smaller files.
Is location data kept in the converted photo?
No. The tool creates a fresh JPG, so details stored in the original such as location, camera and date information are not copied across. If you need them, keep the original HEIC.
Can I convert many photos at once?
Yes, up to 20 at a time. Choose several files, or drop them all together, then convert them in one go.
Why do my iPhone photos come as HEIC?
iPhones save photos as HEIC by default because the files are about half the size of JPGs. To take JPGs instead, go to Settings > Camera > Formats and choose Most Compatible.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. It runs in your mobile browser with nothing to install. In browsers that can't open HEIC themselves, the tool downloads a small decoder the first time you convert, about 1.5 MB, so the first conversion may take a moment.
