What is image conversion, and why is it useful?

Every image format makes a different trade-off between quality, file size and features like transparency. A website might need small WebP files, a form might only accept JPG, and a logo is best kept as a sharp PNG. Converting an image lets you use it wherever you need it, without opening an editor.

Image Formats Explained

JPG

The standard for photos. Small files and works everywhere, but it has no transparency and each save loses a little detail.

PNG

Lossless and supports transparency, which makes it ideal for logos, screenshots and graphics. Files are larger than JPG for photos.

WebP

A modern format that is usually smaller than both JPG and PNG, with transparency support. Great for websites that want faster pages.

SVG

A vector format made of shapes and text, so it stays sharp at any size. Convert it to PNG or JPG when a tool or platform needs a regular image.

Supported Conversions

JPG ↔ PNG

JPG to PNG gives you a lossless copy to edit without further quality loss. PNG to JPG makes photos and screenshots much smaller. Transparent areas become white, because JPG can't store transparency.

JPG or PNG to WebP

Shrink images for your website while keeping them sharp. Use the quality slider to balance file size and detail.

WebP to JPG or PNG

Turn WebP downloads into formats that every app, editor and upload form accepts.

SVG to PNG or JPG

Rasterise vector graphics at their original size or 2×, 3× or 4× larger. The SVG source is shown so you can check what you're converting.

HEIC to JPG

Convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG or PNG. Safari opens them directly, and other browsers use a small built-in decoder that runs on your device.

File Upload vs. Paste Input

Upload files

Best for images saved on your device. Drag them onto the upload area or choose them, up to 10 images at once. You can also paste an image straight from your clipboard.

Paste base64

Best for images that live in code, such as CSS, HTML or API responses. Paste a data URI or the raw base64 text, or even raw SVG markup. Valid data is detected and previewed automatically.

Either way, you can download the converted image or copy it as Base64.

Your Images Stay on Your Device

Everything on this page runs in your browser. Your images are never uploaded, logged or stored, which matters for personal photos, ID scans, screenshots and unreleased designs. It's also fast, because there's no upload or download wait, and it keeps working even if your connection drops after the page has loaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?
No. Images are converted in your browser using built-in browser features. They are never sent to a server and aren't saved, so they disappear when you refresh or close the page.
Which conversions are supported?
JPG to PNG and WebP, PNG to JPG and WebP, WebP to JPG and PNG, SVG to PNG and JPG, and HEIC to JPG, PNG or WebP. Pick the format you want under Convert to.
Why did my transparent PNG get a white background?
JPG can't store transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white when you convert to JPG. Convert to PNG or WebP to keep transparency.
Why can't I convert to WebP in my browser?
Creating WebP images depends on your browser. Chrome, Edge, Firefox and recent versions of Safari can do it. If yours can't, you'll see a message and can choose PNG or JPG instead.
Why won't my HEIC photo open?
Most browsers can't open HEIC themselves, so the tool loads a small decoder (about 1.5 MB) the first time you add a HEIC photo. If your browser can't run it, export the photo as JPG from your phone or computer first, then convert it here.
How do I convert a base64 image?
Paste the base64 text, or the whole data URI starting with data:image/, into the paste box. If it's valid, a preview appears. Choose a format and click Convert Image. Use Copy Base64 to get the result back as a data URI.
Is there a size limit?
Each image can be up to 20 MB and you can convert 10 at a time. Very large images may fail if your browser runs out of memory, since everything runs on your device.
