What is text cleaning, and why is it useful?

Text cleaning is removing the invisible clutter that builds up when text is copied between apps: doubled spaces, stray tabs, blank lines, repeated lines and awkward line breaks. Cleaned text is easier to read, tidier in emails and documents, and safer to feed into spreadsheets, forms, code or other tools that choke on stray whitespace. A text cleaner does it in one step instead of by hand.

Cleaning Options Explained

Remove extra spaces

Turns any run of spaces into a single space, including non-breaking spaces copied from web pages and documents. This covers duplicate spaces and multiple spaces in one option.

Trim whitespace

Strips spaces from the start and end of every line, and from the start and end of the whole text.

Remove tabs

Replaces tab characters with a single space, so words that were separated by a tab don't run together.

Remove empty lines

Deletes blank lines, including lines that contain only spaces. Useful for tightening pasted lists and logs.

Remove duplicate lines

Keeps the first occurrence of each line and drops repeats. Matching is exact and case-sensitive, and blank lines are left alone so paragraph breaks stay in place.

Remove line breaks

Joins all lines into a single line, separated by a space. Good for text copied from PDFs that breaks mid-sentence.

Optional: Remove HTML Tags

Copied text sometimes arrives with HTML tags attached, such as text pasted from a web page's source, an email template or a CMS export. Turn on "Remove HTML tags" to delete the tags and keep the readable text. Line breaks and paragraphs are kept, and HTML entities such as & are converted back to normal characters. It's a convenience for quick clean-ups and is off by default.

Your Text Stays on Your Device

Everything on this page runs in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, logged or stored, which makes it safe for drafts, contracts, customer lists and anything else you'd rather keep to yourself. It's also fast, because there's no waiting on a server, and it keeps working even if your connection drops after the page has loaded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my text uploaded or stored anywhere?
No. Cleaning happens in your browser. Your text is never sent to a server and is not saved, so it disappears when you refresh or close the page.
What does the Text Cleaner do by default?
It removes extra spaces and trims whitespace from each line. Every other option is off until you turn it on, so your line breaks and paragraphs are kept.
Can I combine several options?
Yes. Tick as many as you like and click Clean Text. The options are applied together, so you can, for example, remove empty lines and duplicate lines in one pass.
Will removing duplicate lines change the order of my text?
No. The first copy of every line stays where it was and later copies are removed. Matching is exact, so "Apple" and "apple" are treated as different lines.
Does it remove HTML tags too?
Only if you turn on the optional "Remove HTML tags" setting. It deletes the tags and keeps the readable text. It's meant for quick clean-ups, not for sanitizing untrusted HTML.
Is there a size limit?
There's no limit set by the site. Because everything runs on your device, the practical limit is your browser's memory, and very large texts can take a moment.
